Face the music, Venus Saturn conjunction square Neptune

I’ve always adored musicals. The Big old classic Busby Berkeley tap dancing American 30’s -50’s ones.  The glitz, the glamour, the illusions, the dreamy happy endings. I watched them with my Dad all the time. Some of my Dad’s family had been in vaudeville. They were dancers and musicians. My Great Aunt Mary was a lead chorus girl at the Royal Alex Theatre on Front Street in Toronto in the 20’s called “Mary Rose.” Her friend George White asked her to run off to New York to try to dance on Broadway. She didn’t go. He did and became very famous. The George White Scandals was the competition for the Ziegfeld Follies. Aunt Mary was friends with Beatrice Lily, they had a vaudeville act together. My Dad had always wanted to be a professional dancer. He was an incredible dancer, I remember watching him,he was pretty talented, but he had a birth defect on his ear and that kept him from being in the spotlight. I took dancing lessons seriously from the time I was 5 for 10 years. Oh to be able to dance like the stars.

I finally watched this old film that I had wanted to watch for a while. I used to love it years ago.  Pennies From Heaven, 1981, stars Steve Martin, his then-girlfriend, Bernadette Peters and an awesome dance performance from Christopher Walken is an original and very strange, heavy, modern musical which incorporates those old Fred Astaire, Ginger Rodgers numbers seamlessly.

 I just realized the movie is the perfect mirror for the present Venus/ Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius with Neptune squaring them from PISCES throughout 2016.

As a Triple Sagittarius, I like to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative and don’t mess with Mr. In between. 

But, Saturn, even in Sagittarius is no laughing matter.  Saturn will sober you up. 

VENUS symbolizes human love, the imperfectly beautiful glorious hunk of clay love. The energy ball of stardust held together with blood pumping from a heart full of rhythm. Venus’s metal is copper, that is pennies. 

Venus conjunct Saturn is the everyday down to earth, morning breath, bills, farting, boredom, tedium of everyday romance. Saturn is longevity.  

NEPTUNE symbolizes Heaven. The Ideal, spiritual love, unconditional love, dream lovers. Neptune’s soul mate love is beyond any ego needs. It is totally unselfish love given from a Source of unbounded unlimited love, expecting nothing in return. This is read my mind, telepathic, totally psychic, synched in love. Neptune’s love is the highest vibration, it is Light as Love, it is eternal, infinite. Neptune is escapism, denial, fantasy, illusion, addictions, martyrdom. Neptune governs Hollywood,films, music, creativity. 

SATURN symbolizes reality which has a definite beginning and end. Saturn is the underlying structure of the third dimension. Saturn is the school of hard knocks. It is a hard day’s night, the dark night of the soul, the trials of being human, getting old, failing, death.  

I haven’t seen this movie in God knows how many years and I’d forget how heavily Saturnine it is. It’s so Romantically Venusian and dreamily Neptunian as well. It was adopted from a British series. Steve Martin plays Arthur Parker, the anti-hero, who is a dreamer who wishes reality were like those super romantic songs like Pennies From Heaven. His real life is shit; he is a loser, a liar, a sex obsessed, delusional infantile man. The movie constantly shifts from the hard Saturn to the Hollywood Glamour. Bernadette Peters plays his  mistress/ lover. She is very feminine, sexy, uninhibited and truly a Venus love goddess in the flesh. 

No spoilers. Film Critic Pauline Kael said. “Pennies from Heaven is the most emotional movie musical I’ve ever seen. It’s a stylized mythology of the Depression which uses the popular songs of the period as expressions of people’s deepest longings – for sex, for romance, for money, for a high good time…there was never a second when I wasn’t fascinated by what was happening on the screen.” The real versus the unreal. It’s perfectly crafted to mirror these energies which we are under now. 

Watch it. It isn’t an easy film to watch. Let me know what you think. 

P.S. Steve Martin, who is a genius and who I have adored for many years, was born August 14, 1945 in Waco Texas at 5:54 a.m. Steve has a Natal Venus Saturn conjunction in Cancer, straddling Sirius, the U.S. Sun. Venus is square to his Neptune in Libra. I kid you not, I checked on this after I wrote this.

It’s April 1st, April Fools day!  CELEBRATE!

Celebrated since 1300’s, the Romans’ had a special day called the Hilaria, thousands of years ago. Various culture’s always had a special day for tomfoolery, switching roles and playing practical jokes.

The Fool, is also the Joker whose symbol survives onto modern playing cards. The Fool is  a Trickster a very important archetype from many cultures. The God LOKI is a trickster God in Norse mythology. The coyote trickster tales of Native American  wisdom is another. He is a god and yet not, he can change genders, he often gets him or herself into a mess. He can be a clown teacher and we learn from the clown’s crazy antics, a coyote or the Fool’s mistakes. 

The trickster is known as Nezha in Chinese mythology carrying a cosmic ring around his shoulder. In Japan he is known as Kitsune.  Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote, Kokopelli in South- West stories, Steve Martin in The Pink Panther character, Jerry Lewis’s comedy and many cartoons portray the trickster/fool archetype which we laugh at to laugh at ourselves. 

The Joker can also symbolize Death and treachery and have a very dark side like the villain in Batman, especially the one portrayed by Heath Ledger. 

The Fool emanates from the Top of the Tree of Life from the Godhead directly. He is like the planet Mercury, a mercurial always changing element. We can allow our minds to play tricks on us.

 The TAROT, that archetypal road to enlightenment has THE FOOL as its first and last symbol. Both zero and #22 a Master number.  Zero is the void, nothing, infinity, the circle, naught, no ego, no past, no future, being in the NOW. 

Traditionally the Fool in the Tarot is a young man in tattered clothing carrying all his worldly belongs in a tiny sack and stepping naively off of a cliff with a little dog {his instincts} biting at his heels. 

 The Trickster is a wounded and the whole child. He symbolizes the eternally young soul bravely entering a new incarnation carrying hardly any baggage.

Today Be the Fool, a Merry Prankster, a Joker, be a fool for love. Be a Fool because who really cares what other people think? be in the NOW. THE FOOL symbolizes enlightenment. 

Be The FOOL which is like the Inner child, naive, open, innocent. The Fool’s counterpart or shadow is the KING, The EMPEROR #4 which symbolizes power, authority, the leader, like Putin or Obama.

The King always had court jester’s by his side to keep him humble. In archetypal symbolism the FOOL is really the wise one, whose instincts and pure knowledge are wide open and untainted by expectations, whereas the Emperor is the ego, and can become over inflated with his own power and authority.

Steve Martin comedy is the best medicine astrology

I’ve been in love with Steve Martin  since his SNL days, in the white suit before his trademark premature white hair. He was the very first rock star comedian. He is one of my fave comedians of all time. My dad used to tell jokes all the time so there is that comedy/ daddy love thing.

Steve is as you might suspect -a Triple Leo- with Pluto conjunct Ascendant and SUN in the 1st house. He is a natural performer, STAR, child-like kid, big-hearted, slapstick, charismatic leader. Also a writer, a banjo playing art connoisseur.

His Mercury in VIRGO -is in its own sign, Very strong in his 2nd house of his resources conjunct JUNO, the feminine form of genius. He is a perfectionist, very organized, and has a great memory. He is a serious intellectual.
