These days Halloween has become another day in the year in which to sell lots of scary rubber and plastic paraphernalia, fake blood, creaky coffin lid opening soundtracks, the Monster Mash, etc etc. another commercial holiday. Children dressed in costumes go door to door with their pillowcases {environmentally friendly} asking Trick or Treat! The kiddies are given way too much sugar, and carefully pre-packaged non interfered with goods. Adults these days get into the Halloween theme by dressing up- straight guys love to be able to go out in drag on Halloween and generally party, funkily “spook-up” their environments and drink a lot. Lots of scary movies get shown.

But let’s not forget the origins of Halloween. It is Hallowed Evening. A Holy Evening, the Ancient Pagan/Wiccan New Year during the month when the Sun is in Scorpio, sign of Birth Death and Transformation. It is close to the mid-point between Autumn and Winter Solstice. Death is Rebirth. Wiccans honour this eve as the night when the veil between the two worlds is thinnest and much scrying, gazing into crystal balls and connecting with the spirits of the dead goes on as this night offers the easiest access.

The Wheel of the Year Turns and this is a Sabbat or Sabbath Night, covens gather to do Ceremony. This is a Sacred not a Scared Night.

I wish in the midst of your pumpkin carving and revelry that you take time out to honour this day as it was originally intended. Remember in the midst of all the superficial trappings of Halloween, the hundreds of thousands, some say up to 9,000,000 mainly women, children and men who were accused of being witches by the Catholic Church who were tortured and burned at the stake. Old women, crones, medicine women, herbalists, midwives, pagans,their families, the poor, all innocent people who lived in harmony with Nature, who Loved their Mother the Earth, who knew the Wise Women’s Ways, the ancient ways to heal, to tend the sick, the dying, the mothers giving birth. It was a misogynist Nazi Christian tyranny that went on for over 300 years in Europe and to the New World where the last woman was burned at the stake at Salem. Remember this Holocaust because it wasn’t so long ago. You didn’t have to be Jewish or Muslim you mainly just had to be a woman and therefore evil in the sainted eyes of the Holy Christian Church.

Witch Burning

I remember my own burning, the Inquisitors {one of whom turned out to be in this present life, my first husband, and a couple of Real Estate Agents, one Jewish, one Black} I relived this memory of my past life during a Holotropic Breathwork session. Many other women also relived the same experiences. It was horrible, my own two children were forced to stand and watch as their mother was tied to the stake and the fire lit. Of course I wasn’t meek or mild, I screamed and cursed them all for their inhumanity and ignorance, for their sadism and cruelty.

Those 100,000-200,000 to 9 million innocent souls who were terribly tortured and burned are back now on this earth.

Deep in the cells of your being in your cellular consciousness be you male or female at this time, you remember the Burning Times when you lived in total fear, when you hid you pagan religion, your ability to help, to heal, when tyranny was all around and anyone could accuse you of being a witch thereby ensuring your almost certain death. Watch The Burning Times a Canada Film Board movie which chronicles in detail this stain upon humanity.

Light a candle for those hundreds of thousands of souls who were innocent and remember what it was like. Given 6 degrees of separation you or someone you love, your children or your dog or cat, a friend or even your landlord was surely enough one of those people.

It’s time to acknowledge the deep pain in the shadows of our unconscious. The only way to heal it is to acknowledge that shadow, let the tears flow, the grief, the agony. This brings it out of unconsciousness otherwise shadow control our actions unconsciously and allows us to keep inflicting pain on others and ourselves, believing that we are not worthy, not lovable, deceitful, sinners, powerless. There is a collective shadow of women being afraid to hold their power and beauty.

As this is a New Year in the Ancient Count of Days Light a Candle of Illumination and Enlightenment and go beyond the rage, the anger into Love and Forgiveness. For the only way out is to forgive the accusers for their ignorance. This takes great strength and courage, for as you Forgive them you also forgive yourself and allow yourself to be free of the past.

They will have gotten their karmic comeuppance.

HALLOWEEN is SAMHAIN is the Pagan New year!

We are totally out of synch with solar/lunar natural cycle Westerners who denigrate the earth, the Feminine, the Goddess, and ourselves celebrate New Year’s on a totally artificial Gregorian calendar date 2 months later.  Why not get in synch now?

 The commercialized version of Halloween which has been handed down to us, does partake of some of the original mystery of this night filled with ghosts and spirits walking amongst the living.

October 31 is the night when the veil which divides the worlds of the living and the dead is the thinnest. Covens of pagans, who are ancient nature worshippers, labelled witches and persecuted by the Catholic Church for centuries, would gather to celebrate this sacred Night, the direction of the North West on the great round of the wheel of Life.

Plates of cakes and wine with candles lit are offered to your beloved ancestors, without whom your consciousness and body would not be here. Recalling your departed relatives with reverence is part of the sacredness of this day.

An altar is decorated with autumn leaves, the oranges and golds, the pumpkin, a fall vegetable, one of the last of the season, symbolizes the full round, ripe with abundant seeds of Life.  The harvest has been gathered, the fields are fallow. The King of the Waning Year has sailed over the sunless sea of the womb of the Mother, and alights on the Shining Isle, the luminous wolrd egg, becoming the seed of his own rebirth. The gates of life and death are opened! the new Sun child is conceived, the dead arise and walk, and to the living is revealed the Mystery, that there is no death, that life is everlasting, all endings are but new beginnings. We meet in time out of time, everywhere and nowhere, here and there, at once, to greet the Lord of Death, who is Lord of Life and the Triple Goddess who is the circle of Rebirth. – referenced to Starhawk.

It is the best night to scry gazing into crystals or water.

The popular children’s Halloween game of bobbing for apples comes down to us from the original ancient ceremonial use of the apple at the Halloween Sabbat ceremony. An apple is Goddesse’s sacred fruit of Life- remember the Garden of Eden? It is cut by a ritual sword or athame splitting it open to reveal it as the fruit of death as well. The 2 in One.  All apples are Goddess symbols, the shape of the fruits’ seeds is the 5 sided pentagram , the five fold star of rebirth, as Venus actually cycles in the pentagram shape over time. Upright pentagrams are symbols of Venus herself. The downturned ones are inverted used for black magic and negative.

Apples and eaten wine is drunk. Celebrations of rebirth, renewal, everlasting life is what Halloween is all about. At Midnight Nov 1st becomes the day of the Dead celebrated throughout Mexico, it is coincidentally also part of that ancient Halloween celebration. The spirits of the dead are able to intermingle with the living. Meals are shared with the departed ancestors and friends. In Mexico great family picnics occur in cemeteries. The dead are considered to be helpers and protectors of the living from the beyond always with us but closer this night.

The veils between the worlds open.

Halloween, known as Samhain is the ancient pagan New Year. This is the night when the veil between the worlds is the thinnest. Traditionally this is the night when you honor your departed ancestors, with ceremony, candles and prayers. It is the day to hold a seance. Set up an altar to honor those you loved and who loved you. Your physical DNA and the emotional and physical traits and talents of your ancestors actually lives in you.

SAMHAIN SHAMANIC RITUALS

Bring out your crystals and special blackened water bowls to scry with.  Go visit your dead ancestors at cemeteries. If you have lost loved ones in the past year, ask these spirits to comfort, guide and support you. This would be the best day to tune into David Bowie, or Prince, two of the most beloved musicians who passed on in 2016. I will be channeling both of them tonight and will report afterward.

It’s also good to take a nature walk. Samhain rituals include bonfires, dancing, feasting and building altars to honor the ancestors. Some pagans bake special loaves of bread and leave offerings to the spirits outside their homes. 

In some Wiccan traditions, the Goddess has become the Crone.

She is the Old One,  the wise woman who we turn to for wisdom from experience. Her counterpart is The God,the Horned One, the great antlered stag, the very masculine, sexually potent God of the Hunt. We honor the two at this time.

Bring in symbols of the God, antlers, acorns, pine cones, phallic symbols and symbols of the Goddess, red flowers, cups, and pomegranates.  If your tradition honors a specific pair of male and female deities, feel free to substitute their names in this ritual wherever it says God or Goddess.

Horned God, the Goddess’s Consort

Cast a circle to mark a sacred space. Before starting the ceremony, place three sheaves of corn or wheat around the ritual space. Place a statue or other images of the God and Goddess at the center of your altar. Around the statues, place five candles, red and black for the darker aspect of the Goddess, and green and brown to symbolize the wild male God and nature, and white for the central hearth and home and the New Year.

Near the center of the altar  put a plate of dark bread, for each person present, and cup of wine or cider.  The youngest person present acts as the Handmaiden, and the oldest as the High Priest (HP) or High Priestess.  If you’re performing this rite on your own, act both parts.  The H.Ps. lights the red and black candles, and says:

“We light the candles  in honor of the Goddess.
She is Maiden Mother and Crone.”

Next, the H.P. lights the brown and green candles, saying:

“We light the candles in honor of the masculine God.
He is wild and fertile and tonight we honor him as the Horned God.”

The Handmaiden takes the bread and walks the circle, offering each person a piece.  The H.P. says

“May the blessings of the Goddess be upon you.” The cup of wine or cider is passed around, and each person sips from the cup. As they do, the H.P. says: “May the blessings of the God be upon you.”

The Handmaiden then lights the fifth candle, for the hearth, saying:

“This candle is lit in honor of hearth and home.
The mother and father, the Goddess and the God
watch over us tonight as we honor them.”

The High Priestess says

“We light the candles for the most powerful Goddess
and her mighty horned consort, the God,
and for the safety of hearth and home.
On this, night of Samhain, the Goddess is a wise Crone,
and the God is a wild stag, and we honor and celebrate their Union.”

The H.P. states

“This is the time between the worlds, a time of life and death.
This is a night unlike any other night.
Ancient ones, we ask for your blessings.
Goddess, great Crone, mother of all life,
we thank you for your wisdom.
Horned One, master of the wild hunt, keeper of the forest,
we thank you for all that you provide.”

Everyone can give thanks in their own way. Place offerings to them on the altar.

Once all the offerings have been made, and thanks given, consider the gifts that the gods have given you over the past year, and show your gratitude. Meditate on the new beginnings of Samhain. State new intentions for the New Year.

As this is also a New Moon in Scorpio the energy is stronger than normal on this day. 

The Scorpio Moon sextiles Pluto in Capricorn trines Chiron in Pisces inconjuncts Uranus in Aries and sextiles Mars in Capricorn. 

Scorpio is ruled by both Mars and Pluto as co-rulers so there easy access to this Moon deepens our ease of access to the Depth, the Underworld, Pluto’s realm, the realm of the Dead. This is the fertile land of the ghosts, ancestors, and our spirit guides. 

The inconjunct of Scorpio Moon to Uranus  brings in an element of surprise and chaos. Ride the electric current of Uranus energy to the farthest out unbeknownst worlds. This is inventive, pioneering, brave new horizons.

Dark space, Scorpio New Moon Astrology

October 30 SCORPIO NEW MOON @ 10:38 am PDT/ 1:38 pm EDT/ 5:38 pm GMT is the darkest Moon. Scorpio is associated with the time of death and darkness in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the ancient pagan/ witches New Year on Halloween. November 1st being the New Year’s day. These ancient festivals are older than time.  Scorpio is associated with the most feared Tarot card in the deck. The DEATH card. All traditional Tarot decks show The Grim Reaper in its symbolism. The Grim Reaper is planet SATURN. Scorpio is ruled by MARS and PLUTO in modern astrology and they are still conjoined in Capricorn the seat of corporate, wordly power.

This is the last New Moon before the U.S. election and for one of the candidates the Grim reaper will come for them. The Fear of death stems from the ego, which by its nature is an illusion. Fear of change, fear of the unknown, stem from the ego which falsely thinks it is separate from our immortal souls. The more we are in our unconscious ego state the more we fear real change. Scorpio is a Fixed water sign.

Mystics talk about needing to die and be reborn within ourselves to achieve enlightenment. This death is a metaphorical and very real ego-death, which once experienced changes our ground of being totally and we are reborn in life. The dark is our natural birth place, we are created in the dark of our mother’s wombs, it’s where we are feelings of being safe, hearing our mother’s heartbeat and knowing we are connected to the source in physical reality. The dark is a place of transcendence. Let go of old notions, let your ego justifications go, let it all slip away. Have faith that you will survive and thrive. There is nothing to fear.

Out of the broom closet,witches

I am officially and publicly out of the broom closet.Yes I am a witch, a white witch. I proclaimed this on TV yesterday. Halloween or Samhain is an ancient Pagan/wiccan celebration honoring the close of the old year and it is New Years. It is the day when the veil between the worlds is thinnest. NOvember 1 is All saints Day or the Day of the dead. I was also initiated as a Green Witch by Susun Weed at her goat farm in Woodstock New York in 1987. 

Archetypal wicked witch, hag, crone.

Wicca or wiccan is a modern term for ancient pagan spiritual beliefs which honoured the Great Mother the earth and the Divine Feminine and  participated in the turning of the wheel of the year.It is a non-hierarchical, pantheistic religion. Although I hesitate to use the term religion as we associate it with organized Patriarchal religions. 

The Catholic Inquisition which initially was against all heretics, the Cathars in particular, terrified pagans for hundreds of years.  The Grand Inquisitors ruled from 1200 until the mid-19th century. The Malleus Maleficarum written in 1486 stated that witchcraft was to blame for bad weather. This charge was levelled mainly at women, which according to this text “all witchcraft comes from carnal lust which is in women insatiable”. 

Over the course of 300 years in Europe estimates as high as nine million people were accused of witchcraft, 80% were women were burned at the stake, sadistically tortured and their children were forced to watch them burn. This was the women’s Holocaust. This was worse than Hitler and the Catholic Church is wholly to blame for it. 

 

I remember being burned at the stake and the  Jesuit Priests who convicted me. The one who convicted me in the past turned out to be my ex-husband in this life I later discovered. One re-appeared as one of the realtors who tricked me into selling my house out from under me years ago. It’s a long story,and is part of the book I am still writing.

HOLOTROPIC BREATHWORK

I experienced a full memory of this past life during a Holotropic Breathwork workshop years ago. Holotropic Breathwork was invented by Dr. Stanislav Grof following his experiments using LSD in psychiatry in the 70’s. It is a breathing and music aided psych0-spiritual healing journey which induces a non-ordinary state of reality experience. Most people remember their birth and pre-births in this state. Some people remember death experiences. A number of women at this specific workshop stated that they also remembered their past life as witches and being tortured. 

I had been very angry at the Priest who sentenced me. I cursed him for his ignorance and for so wickedly and arrogantly destroying my life as well as the other women who were also being tortured. My heart broke to leave my husband and children. This was not the first time that I had been serving The Goddess and my life had been destroyed because of it. I also remember being a High Priestess of the Goddess in Greece years ago and having that be overrun an destroyed by  hostile invaders.

Those 7 million women who had been tortured in the past have  come back into this life to take back their power and to reinstate the worship of the Great Mother. That is why the pagan Goddess worshipping communities, websites, workshops, and courses are increasingly  popular now. I am working on launching Priestess workshops and online Moon lodges now.

In the West where women are largely well-educated, relatively good wage-earners, and have freedom {to some extent{ within this culture, we all now must proudly announce where our ancient soul reverence belongs.

It used to be shameful to be called a witch. The stereotype of the old hag, or crone, depicted as an ugly old woman with hooked nose and warts and wild hair, and the fairy tales about the Wicked Old Witch, eating children are a gross misrepresentation and total cultural propaganda.

Elder women were wise women and healers. whose knowledge as midwives and who also attended to those dying were respected and honoured. They had status. 

In a culture which worships youth and not the status of being a wise elder, women need to also embrace this aspect. We are all inevitably ageing. The masculine type of pursuit of immortality is rooted in the false belief that we are our bodies and not immortal souls. The word crone is equated with witches and it carries the same popular stigma. I like the term Crone because it simply means chronos, Time, seniority, maturity, and implies wisdom from living so long.

In my mind if you are older but not wiser that is why you would want to avoid being called a crone and not acknowledged for your wisdom. Language is also empowering. A  large part of Feminism  pointed out that reframing and respelling, sounds Magical doesn’t it?  changes the meaning of a word.

Let’s Re-Spell this.

I put forward that the word CHRONE spelled with the additional H be used proudly to represent a woman past -menopause. That could be any age from the late 40’s. It means a wise women, an elder worthy of respect and honored for her experience and wisdom. We can revere aging as beautiful.

I had been saying I am ready to fully embrace my own power. I was sitting in front of the TV Tuesday night when a commercial came on for the CTV Morning show called Canada A.M. In my mind I said I want to be on that show. I stated that intention clearly.

Wed. October 28, I get an email from a producer at Canada A.M. asking me if I would be interested in being on the show for Halloween talking about wicca and witches. They gave me some homework to do to help them prep videos which I was happy to do.  watch the video below.

A Holy Evening, the Ancient Pagan/Wiccan New Year when the Sun is in Scorpio, sign of Birth, Death and Transformation. It is close to the mid-point between Autumn and Winter Solstice. Death is Rebirth. The Wheel of the Year Turns and this is a Sabbat or Sabbath Night, covens gather to do Ceremony. This is a Sacred not a Scared Night. I wish in the midst of your pumpkin carving and revelry that you take time out to honour this day as it was originally intended. Remember in the midst of all the superficial trappings of Halloween, the hundreds of thousands, some say up to 9,000,000 mainly women, children and men who were accused of being witches by the Catholic Church who were tortured and burned at the stake. Old women, crones, medicine women, herbalists, midwives, pagans, their families, the poor, all innocent people who lived in harmony with Nature, who Loved their Mother the Earth, who knew the Wise Women Ways, the ancient ways to heal, to tend the sick and dying, the mothers giving birth. It was a mysogynist Nazi Christian tyranny that went on for over 300 years in Europe and to the New World where the last woman was burned at the stake at Salem, Mass. Remember this Holocaust because it wasn’t so long ago. You didn’t have to be Jewish or Muslim you mainly just had to be a woman and therefore evil in the sainted eyes of the Holy Christian Church. The genderside continues daily on this planet. I remember my own burning, I relived this memory of my past life during a Holotropic Breathwork session. Those 100,000-200,000 to 9 million innocent souls who were terribly tortured and burned are back now on this earth.Deep in the cells of your own being, in your cellular consciousness be you male or female at this time, you remember the Burning Times, when you lived in total fear, when you hid you pagan religion, your ability to help, to heal, your compassion. This brings it out of unconsciousness otherwise that shadow control our actions unconsciously and allows us to keep inflicting pain on others and self, believing that we are not worthy, not lovable, deceitful, sinners,powerless. There is a collective shadow of women being afraid to hold their power and beauty. As this is a New Year in the Ancient Count of Days, Light a Candle of Illumination and Enlightenment and go beyond the rage, the anger into Love and Forgiveness. For the only way out is to forgive the accusers for their ignorance. HALLOWEEN originally called SAMHAIN is the Pagan New year!

We totally out of synch with solar/lunar natural cycle Westerners who denigrate the earth, the Feminine, the Goddess, and ourselves celebrate New Year’s on  a totally artifical Gregorian calendar date 2 months later.  Why not get in synch now?

 The commercialised version of Halloween which has been handed down to us, does partake of some of the original mystery of this night filled with ghosts and spirits walking amongst the living.

October 31 is the night when the veil which divides the worlds of the living and the dead is the thinnest. Covens of pagans, who are ancient nature worshippers, labeled witches and persucuted by the Catholic Church for centuries, would gather to celebrate this sacred Night, the direction of the North West on the great round of the wheel of Life.

Plates of cakes and wine with candles lit are offered to your beloved ancestors, without whom your consciousness and body would not be here. Recalling your departed relatives with reverence is part of the scaredness of this day.

The popular childrens Halloween game of bobbing for apples, comes down to us from the original ancient ceremonial use of the apple at the Halloween Sabbat ceremony. The dead are consdered to be helpers and protectors of the living from the beyond always with us but closer this night.
