Beltane May Day, phallic fertility, fires and fairies

May 1st Beltane is a Sacred Phallic worshipping Green Man the Goddess lover’s day as May Pole dancing rites are held and Beltane Bonfires burn.

Beltane/May Day is an ancient fertility festival honouring the Horned Man or God Pan with a huge phallus. This cross-quarter day celebrates Fire, male sexuality, fertility and fairies. The word PANdemic comes from the root of this Pagan God who was demonized by the Catholic Church.
Beltane celebration rituals begin tonight April 30. It’s Walpurgis night, the night before May 1st, Beltane.
SACRED PHALLIC and FIRE FERTILITY CELEBRATION FESTIVAL
Light the fires of passion, as this festival celebrates love, conception, fertility, and the power of the masculine phallic force of

the horned God to initiate new life in the Goddess.

The ancient God Pan is ready to mate with the Goddess and impregnate her. This is a very ancient night of celebrating the “Heiros Gamos” or SACRED MARRIAGE between the Goddess and the God, meeting in the fields, or in the woods to honor fertility and new life.
Setting new intentions on this night is very powerful.
MAYPOLE
The MAYPOLE is the phallic symbol and the participants weave their ribbons around as they dance the spiral dance of time and our interwoven connectivity with all our relations on MAY day.

This is one of the major cross-quarter days in the year. We are half way to summer in the northern hemisphere and the veils between the worlds are thin.
The FAE or fairies come out and dance in magic forest circles and all of our ancestors are close be. Beltane celebrates fertility and seeding new intentions with magic passion and light. It is a time of joyful invocation, healing, and beginnings.
Beltane is the time to plant all your seeds for future endeavours you wish to actualize and harvest at the end of summer.
Invoke the spirit of these intentions in the time of TAURUS, an earth sign.
Participants light the Beltane fires traditionally on hilltops and jump over it for purification.

the VEIL BETWEEN THE WORLD’S ARE THINNEST just like at Halloween or Samhain, the energy is the same. The Faery Queen goes out riding in the woods tonight.

Dancing around the MAYPOLE is an ancient fertility celebration of the maiden and the horned god who would meet in the dark, make love as strangers, embodying the God and Goddess.

This is the night when Maidens would go wander in the woods, as FLORA, the flowers, NATURE SPRUNG newly born, maiden has nothing to do with virginity or marriage as they are simply young, and eager to mate, as they are in touch with natural sexuality, Nature’s rhythms, to give themselves to a stranger in the woods, the Green Man, also called PAN to the Greeks, the Horned Stag, called Cernunnos, in Latin, he is raw male phallic, sexual energy, virile and youthful.

 CERNUNNOS the horny man

If a man had been created in the horned God’s image he would be free to be wild, without being cruel, angry without being violent, sexual without being coercive spiritual without being unsexed, and truly able to love.”

– Starhawk, The Spiral Dance

Children conceived this night are considered to be magical and to belong to the realm of FAIRY as in The MISTS of AVALON. The maidens do not know the man they mate within the sacred marriage ritual.

Couples would also take vows to be in relationships for a year and a day, sort of test driving a relationship to see if they are compatible.

It is considered unlucky to marry in MAY as this month is dedicated to the wedding of the GOD and the GODDESS  alone.

Another important custom is bathing in dew gathered before dawn on Beltane Morn, your beauty will flourish throughout the year. Sprinkled with the dew insures you of health and happiness. Or drinking from the well before dawn of Beltane is also good luck.

Leftover Food from May 1st eve should be left out for the fairies.

We will light our fire tonight. Wishing you all a Blessed Beltane.

More Beltane ritual.Day 2 of 5 5 5, WATER element ritual by Tara Greene

BELTANE FIRES
On Beltane eve the Celts would build two large fires, Bel Fires, lit from the nine sacred woods. The Bel Fire is an invocation to Bel (Sun God) to bring His blessings and protection to the tribe. The herds were ritually driven between two needfires (fein cigin), built on a knoll. The herds were driven through to purify, bring luck and protect them as well as to insure their fertility before they were taken to summer grazing lands.

The Bonfires are lit in the South. Participants, in an act of purification and for luck jump over the fire calling out loudly what it is they wish each time they jump. Lovers jump the fires together, holding hands to cleanse their relationships of petty disharmonies. Whatever it is you wish to cleanse from your life-claim it and so it shall be.

WATER
Water is another important association of Beltane, water is refreshing and rejuvenating, it is also imperative to life. It is said that if you bathe in the dew gathered before dawn on Beltane morn, your beauty will flourish throughout the year. Those who are sprinkled with May dew are insured of health and happiness. There are other folk customs such as drinking from the well before sunrise on Beltane Morn to insure good health and fortune.

If doing the Day 2 of the 5 day cleansing and renewal ritual: WATER

In the South is the element of Water.

We are mainly water, 70% exactly like the earth’s surface. We evolved from the ocean. Water represents innocence, trust, the child, the inner child, the womb, river, the flow of  life. Water is the EMOTIONS and the HEART, our feelings. Our blood, our tears, our sweat, semen, sexual fluids. Water represents cleansing and purification, dissolving. Water  is love, the heart is the universal solvent. Water dissolves all rigidity and hardness not by withstanding but by flowing throught the path of least resistance, seeking the Source. We need to drink lots of pure alkaline balanced water.

 MODERN RITUAL

If you can’t manage a bonfire, simply lighting a small fire will do. Intention is everything, so light a small fire in your home safely, write down what it is you want to dispel from your life and burn it in the flames. Or you could do a Jack be nimble Jack be quick and jump over a candle on the floor, very carefully for luck. If you are in a partnership cleanse it of disharmony, rekindle your vows. Drink water empowered with Love by focusing on sending love to even a glass of water or a pitcher of water, as Dr, Emoto has shown sending love to water changes its’ crystalline structure. Empower the water with love and pour it on yourself your plants, your garden your threshold, your loved ones. Festoon your doorknobs with flowers, or hang flowers outside your home.

DANCE

Dancing around a Maypole may not be easily done these days, so simply imagine the May Pole the ancient boys and girls with the colored ribbons in their hands interweaving in and out to form the spiral pattern around the pole. Enjoy, celebrate, send prayers to the Sun and the Mother Earth. Dance with the Faeries, invite them into your home and your heart. Right on cue the Planet Venus, Goddess of love and beauty just entered her home sign of Taurus yesterday. The lovely planet is at her best in Taurus. Make love, be sensual, romantic, soak in a lovely flower strewn bath, this is Taurus energy. Participating with the thousands of neo-pagans, witches and all other indigenous peoples at this time helps boost the energy, Honoring the Sacred Marriage of the Earth and the Sun without honors the Sacred Marriage within. This is the entire goal of Alchemy, of turning lead into Gold. When we each do our parts to come into balance within ourselves in our local environment the Earth and the Sun, balance is restored throughout the Universe.

Enjoy!

May 1 May Day Beltane fire sex fertility earthy pagan celebration Astrology from Tara Greene

May Day is the ancient pagan Beltane fire celebration of the Maypole Dance  the phallic dance of  fertility. Beltane fires are lit atop hilltops.

Revelers intertwine ribbons and dance around the MayPole. Traditionally masked young men and women would meet as strangers in the night, to mate,on the earth, in the bonfire shadows, to surrender to the natural desires of Spring, budding life and new passion running in their veins. Children conceived at Beltane were considered sacred and special and born around St. Brigid’s day, also a Fiery Goddess.

We are moving with the round of the year, May 1st marks the cross-quarter, half- way point between Spring and Summer Solstice now. The days are lengthening in the Northern hemisphere. Conversely, pagans are celebrating Halloween or Samhain down under, the Witches New year. It is the Day of the Dead in the southern Hemisphere and the fire festival of renewed life in the northern half.

Go with the flow, the natural flow or CHI  of earth energy. Celebrate the renewed life force. You don’t have to be pagan to commune with the masculine life force rising.

The waxing Earthy Virgo Moon conjuncts Mars -@ 1:27 am PDT/ 4:27 am EDT to lend a perfect  mirror.

There are more Grand Trines between Virgo Moon and Mars, Pluto in Capricorn and Sun in Taurus.

It’s an excellent time to conceive tonight, literally with the cosmic golden Triangles blessings, if not a physical child then any creative means of self-expression. Explore more soulful { PLuto}  avenues of work and service {VIRGO} , and simply allow your body sense and feelings [ TAURUS}  to walk your silent minded talk. Celebrate being in the BODY! MAke  love, dance with passion around the bonfire!

I see May Day as the first day to a 5 day ceremonial uprising and celebration.

With the upcoming 5 5 5 , also Cinco de Mayo, Wesak, and an incredibly powerful once a year extra sexy Scorpio FULL MOON coming up

use MAY DAY as a synchronic potent fiery spirit initiation to ritually totally transform your life, in balancing  completing and fullfilling YOU with the precious 5th element in your life.

So start May day  DAY 1 – with honouring the FIRE element. It’s prefect! Fire= EAST, RED, passion, MARS, Phallic, beginnings

ALWAYS smudge, your self first to cleanse and purify your self before you do any ceremony or sacred ritual using sacred cedar, sweet grass, sage or incense.

Always cast a sacred circle, delineating sacred space from profane space. You can sprinkle it with blessed water, or simply intend it,

Use candles which match the elements: In the  Native American tradition:

Yellow for FIRE, Red for WATER,  BLACK for EARTH, White for AIR, Blue or RED  for spirit.

Different traditions associate different elements to different directions depending on where they live geographically. May seem confusing but it makes sense. If you live on the west coast Water, the ocean is in the west, etc. Puru uses a different system and animal emblems.

Beginning in the south with the coiled serpent {Kundalini energy} Innocence, the past,

moving to the west the Jaguar, death and rebirth, earth

to the north, air beautiful sweet nectar drinking hummingbird,

and finally to the East, fire, the Sun and the Condor soaring with spirit.

The 5th element is all our relations, all the peoples, teachers, creatures and the Star nations,

Once in you’re sacred space always move clock-wise,

May Day, 1= FIRE,  May 2- WATER, May 3 -EARTH, May 4 – AIR,  May 5 = SPIRIT/SOUL

Use whatever associations you like to the 4 elements, whatever has personal resonance with you, use it.

I’ll post helpers for each days ceremony.
