The Fault in our Stars, Astrology goes mainstream

In an online article in The Gawker February 25 2015 Rachel Monroe writes a wonderfully full bodied article about going through the research materials in the archives which Norman Mailer used for his 1979 book about murderer Gary Gillmore The Executioner’s Song, she finds  this:

Just do it Astrology Tara Greene

“And then in folder 192.6 of the Mailer archive, I found something unexpected: A 20+ page horoscope analysis of Gilmore from astrologer/numerologist Daniel Wexler, along with Wexler’s bill for $250. (That’s nearly $1000 in 2015 dollars; for comparison purposes, a personalized horoscope book from Susan Miller, the most famous contemporary astrologer, will run you $54.99.) While the horoscope that Wexler drew up never gets mentioned in The Executioner’s Song, it turns out to be a much better description of what made Gary Gilmore tick than anything found in the prison file (“Mars opposition Saturn: Aspect of bad judgment which for years may appear to get away with murder until accumulated flaws topple over the structure of your existence…Venus opposition Saturn: cold or unsympathetic treatment by one or both parents which has tended to warp the emotional nature… Are sensitive and have been hurt much too easily so that you have withdrawn into yourself and give the appearance of being detached and a little hard”). The psych reports, with their insistence on diagnosis and binary crazy/not crazy designations, are useless; the more they insist on coherence, the more they collapse in on themselves. A horoscope, however— no one expects it to make any sense. And then surprisingly, it does.”

“Frank Gilmore, Gary’s father, was a petty tyrant with a paranoid streak and an impossibly long set of rules. Inevitably, his sons fell short of his standards, and both Gary and his older brother Frank Jr. were subject to weekly belt-whippings. In one scene in Cremaster 2, Matthew Barney’s conceptual treatment of Gary Gilmore’s life, Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo sits behind a drum kit, pounding out a frantic, erratic anti-rhythm as thousands of bees swam all over him. It’s a perfect evocation of the chaos and random pain that characterized Gary’s early years. “My father was the first person I ever wanted to murder,” Gary said, shortly before his execution. “If I could have killed him and got away with it, I would have.”

“I learned later that despite his no-bullshit reputation, Mailer apparently had a “deep respect” for astrology. You can find his natal chart online, too. He and Gilmore have a shared Saturn problem, as it turns out:

“Moon square Saturn- a hectic emotional life…you may be the despair of yourself and your friends. Through excessive dependence you hurt your parents, thru erratic action your sweethearts… If the horoscope has a negative bent, then this aspect may lead to depression of spirits, dejection, and a sense of frustration…”

“I don’t know why it brought me so much comfort to find out that Mailer was into astrology— maybe it’s simply because it makes him seem a little bit silly, and it’s always fun to see a pompous man made a little bit ridiculous. But then again, I read my horoscope, too. I appreciate astrology as a kind of metaphor for the powerful or seemingly random forces that shape us — the brains we’re born with, all the sneaky or lucky tricks of fate that alter the courses of our lives.”

“Astrologically speaking, I have more in common with Mailer than I do with Gilmore. Our suns square neptune (“artist’s soul”); our suns sextile mars (very competitive). We have the same Saturn/Libra intimacy issues. An accident of stardust doesn’t make me and Norman Mailer best friends, of course. But maybe we’re not as incompatible as I had thought.”

“Your chart, with its houses and conjunctions and trines, doesn’t insist that you possess a solid, consistent self, but instead presumes that you’re a jumble of competing characteristics that sometimes work against each other. You can be a murderer and a gifted artist, a sweet boyfriend and an abuser, a bad man with bright spots.”

“In his memoir, Mikal Gilmore wonders if Gary was cursed from the moment of conception. Later, he walks this statement back a bit, placing his brother in the category of people “who had the possibility of murder jammed deep inside their hearts at an early age.” Of course, not every possibility comes true, just as every horoscope is merely a prediction, not a decree of fate. There were four Gilmore brothers who all grew up with the same family weather; only one of them ever killed anyone.”

“We still live under that same blank sky. We still spend long winter nights telling each other stories, making patterns out of infinity, looking for new angles on that something wrong. Better, I suppose, to look too long than to not look at all.”

This is fascinating that the writer uses astrology as a serious reference to karma -“cursed from the moment of conception.” and sees Norman Mailer’s and Gary Gilmore’s similar connection to her own chart. We are drawn to what we innately have in ourselves, which is witnessed in our astrology chart.

For the record you can’t compare a personal astrology report written many years ago by the astrologer Daniel Wexler to Susan Millers’ computerized astrology reports now which are mass-produced.

As for four brothers in one family, and only one murdered, well karmicaly they are all different souls on different trajectories who chose to be born to the same biological parents but who have entirely different life plans and potentials. You would have to look at each brothers charts individually.

For the astrology record here is Gary Gilmore’s  Natal chart and his execution Jan 17 1977 in Draper Utah

Astrology of a killer Tara Greene

Was Gary Gilmore, born Faye Robert Coffman,  cursed from the moment of conception? Well there are conception astrology charts but I’ll just go by his natal chart. Yes, he had a very difficult karmic pattern in his birth chart.

Saturn Retrograde conjunct Jupiter in Fixed earth sign of Taurus in the 6th, magnifies difficulties with the father, poverty, the body, physical abuse; opposite MARS – deep anger, resentment, rage, warrior, abuse; conjunct Venus in Scorpio- problems with women, love, sex, abuse, in the 12th house of self-undoing, alcoholics, sadism, mental illness, power and control issues, all squared by Pluto Retrograde in Leo in the 9th- a soul reborn to a need for stardom, fame, entitlement, immaturity, overdoing, tall tales, larceny. Gary had a wide fixed Grand cross to bare.

The Moon in cool detached Aquarius is also squares Saturn- this indicates trouble with the mother, and women, illusions, suppression of emotion. Emotionally eccentric, erratic, wild, chaotic emotions, a free spirit, an unconventional person.  Moon  squares Venus/Mars conjunction in Scorpio- deep resentment against the mother, anger at the father. The Moon is the womb and conception. Yes this is a horoscope of someone who was cursed at conception lets say. I don’t believe in labeling  it a curse. I would call it a snapshot an encapsulation of Gary Gilmore’s own soul choice. The karmic ripening of his potential, his past life baggage. His soul tests in that lifetime. You get the picture.

Norman Mailer’s chart

Norman Mailer astrology Tara Greene

Norman Mailer’s natal chart is quite complex.

Yes Norman also has Saturn Retrograde, but in Libra in the 7th house of  marriage in square to his Moon in Cancer in the 5th. Same aspect different elements and houses and many other things to take into account. It’s more about Mailer has his own Mars conjunct Lilith in Aries conjunct Chiron indicating a deep rage/ fascination/ repulsion with sex, women, relationships and his father.

As for Mailer and Gilmore’s connections:

I find it fascinating that Mailer had his natal Neptune- the arts, projections, at 16 degrees Leo Retrograde opposite Gilmore’s Moon.  Gilmore’s South Node- his past life karma, is at 8 Aries { a warrior, a fighter, rebel and killer} is exactly conjunct to Mailer’s Mars in Aries in his first house. Mailer’s research into Gilmore’s life fueled Mailers success. I would venture that the two had a past life connection.

Oscar Wilde astrology

October 16, 2014  is the 160 anniversary of infamous Irish writer and poet Oscar Wilde. Most famous for writing The Picture of Dorian Gray in 1890, he was jailed for homosexuality in Victorian England and his since become a gay icon. Born into a wealthy family his father was Knighted for being a doctor.

“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation. ” OSCAR WILDE

He  refined his ideas about the supremacy of art in a series of dialogues and essays, and incorporated themes of decadence, duplicity, and beauty into his work. He was an avid lecturer on art and modern life.

Oscar is famous for his plays: The Importance of Being Ernest 1895 was a stage hit in London. He wrote Salome in French in Paris but was refused to allowed to perform it as Biblical subjects were forbidden in Victorian England. The famous actress Sarah Bernhardt was in rehearsals to play the lead role. Aubrey Beardsley famous Art Nouveau artist designed it.

Salome Aubrey Beardsley Astrology

Oscar was a brilliant student. He went to Oxford and also became a Master Mason. He was a supreme individualist and aesthete.  He lived very fashionably partying to excess.  He may have been  bi-sexual as he had previous female love interests. He also always wanted to be  Catholic.

In 1882 he came to America to promote his poems and to read. The tour lasted a year and was very successful.  He married Constance Lloyd in 1884. They had two sons together. She continued to support him financially for most of his life.

He was the editor of Lady’s World Magazine in 1887 in London England.

Wilde believed in art as a redemptive value. “Art is individualism, and individualism is a disturbing and disintegrating force. There lies its immense value. For what it seeks is to disturb monotony of type, slavery of custom, tyranny of habit, and the reduction of man to the level of a machine.”

Wilde met Alfred Douglas in 1893 and they has a  tumultuous affair. Oscar started to hang out with gay prostitutes who were young working class, blackmailers who were dangerous and thrilling to Wilde.

In May 1895 Wilde was sentenced to two years of hard labour for being a homosexual for enticing younger working class men into a life of degradation and male homosexuality. “The love that dare not speak its name” is what Oscar Wilde is famous for.

Prison broke him physically, financially and spiritually. In reflecting on his life he wrote. ..’.I wanted to eat of the fruit of all the trees in the garden of the world… And so, indeed, I went out, and so I lived. My only mistake was that I confined myself so exclusively to the trees of what seemed to me the sun-lit side of the garden, and shunned the other side for its shadow and its gloom.”

released in May 1897 he went to live in France. Totally impoverished, he died November 30 1900  after being given a conditional Baptism and the last rites by a Catholic Priest. He was buried in a tomb outside of Paris but his ashes were transferred to another cemetery.

Oscar’s legacy lives on.Lets look at his astrology chart…

oscar wilde Astrology Tara Greene

Oscar was a Libra with Venus ruling in her own sign. Libra’s are social addicts. They need relationships, beauty, art, refinement, they see both sides of any issue.

Oscar’s MOON was of course in LEO at the 15th and most powerful degree in his 11th house of receiving love, The moon has an  Aquarian overtone, he was naturally charismatic, charming, powerful. A rule breaker, revolutionary, STAR, proud, vain, the King, creative, expressive, self indulgent, immature, over the top emotionally. He loved drama.

A 15 degree Virgo ASCENDANT means Oscar was an intellectual, a writer, very perfectionist, hard-working, “salt of the earth” or fascinated with the poor, he dallied with working class men.

Mercury planet of communications is in SEXY SCORPIO in the 3rd {GEMINI} house of communications, writing, short journeys. He was an obsessive thinker about sex, danger, secret liasons, power. Very charismatic personality. Mercury rules his Virgo ascendant and his GEMINI career Mid heaven. A natural intellectual, writer and communicator.

VENUS in Libra is powerful in her home sign in the 2nd house of  values, the body, resources. Venus rules flirting, love affairs, the arts, romance, creativity, beauty, good taste socializing. Oscar came from a wealthy family and beautiful aesthetics were his main focus.

MARS is in Sagittarius indicating his spontaneous passions, love of travel, learning, lecturing, being a gypsy. Oscar was a philosopher and he loved to communicate. Mars in the 3rd house of communications he could write very quickly and become inspired easily. He was always curious and naive.

JUPITER at 19 degrees of Capricorn on the 5th house cusp indicates a hard-working person. He accomplished a lot and had much career success at quite a young age. He died at only 46 years of age. Jupiter in Capricorn indicates luck, wisdom, expansion on many peaks.

Oscars chart is very complex with many inconjunct planets in his natal chart.  You can see all the dotted green lines forming almost a  pentagram.

JUPITER is the YOD or Finger of God point between Saturn in Gemini Retrograde, the highest elevated planet. Saturn is his father, authority figures, men in general, career, structure, obstacles, karma. The Moon in Leo is the other part of the Yod but is also the Finger of God between Jupiter and Neptune Retrograde in Pisces on Oscar’s Descendant.  He was an idealist, a dreamer, a person who got caught in his own projections.

SATURN in Gemini indicates a dual nature. Oscar could be the most sophisticated intellectual and intelligent of writers and communicators and also the lowest of the low in relationships. He had his karma cut out for him with Saturn Retrograde at the noon position in his chart. Every authority figure or man he was involved with was someone he came to finish karma with. He was a Peter Pan, an eternal peur, a boy who never wanted to grow up or old just like the Picture of Dorian Gray.

URANUS is also at 15 degrees of Taurus in the 9th house is square to his Leo Moon. A natural rebel, a trouble maker. Uranus in the 9th is revolutionizing and teaching new values through philosophy, lecturing. speaking. He was extremely sensual and breaking societies rules. He did not respect tradition. Uranus square the Moon indicates a fickleness, a changeable temperament. He was unpredictable emotionally. His life was filled with emotional chaos. He was proud and vain and yet mocked society and the ruling class. This was his undoing later in his life.

NEPTUNE in PISCES Retro on the Descendant

Oscar was an imaginative genius but also deluded, debauched, someone who projected his fantasies onto others men and relationships in general. He was a dreamer, an artist, very sensitive, psychic, empathic. He was an addictive personality, and indulged himself sexually to his own detriment with Neptune square Saturn. Neptune was also quincunx the Moon in Leo. He had insatiable appetites.

PLUTO at 2 degrees Taurus Retrograde in the 8th is quincunx Mars in Sagittarius. Pluto is the soul, the unconscious, the shadow. Pluto in Taurus is the SOUL as BODY,  being ruled by your body’s sensuality sexuality and desires. For Oscar his soul transformed through the body and sensuality.  Oscar’s shadow was consorting with men who were foreign, exotic to him. Ultimately for those Victorian times this was his demise.

His North Node was 22 degrees of Taurus in the 9th house. Oscar’s highest spiritual goals is to embody and teach a philosophy of freedom, higher consciousness, honesty, metaphysics, sensuality arts and justice.

His SOUTH NODE in Scorpio in the 3rd house would imply past lives as a philosopher, a teacher, traveler, someone with secrets, power, who need to be in control. He could have been a powerful, manipulative, very sexual. debauched Roman in past lives. We come into our present life with unconscious memories and impulses from the past. Oscar brought through his intense sexual desire which wasn’t appropriate for Victorian repressive times.

Saturn is also in quincunx to his Scorpio South Node indicating old revenge from former liasons who were out to get him in trouble.

CHIRON in Capricorn quincunxed by the Leo Moon ans Gemini Retrograde Saturn.

He was a wounded healer, His body desires, his vanity and ego were his undermining. It was his karma to fall from grace, to be targetted by the establishment.

His creative works  lived on  and Oscar Wilde’s name is famous and a guiding light for gays and for artists and for those who challenge societies mores.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez, life and death Astrology by Tara Greene

Sorry if I haven’t been writing the last few days I have been in a workshop in Sedona all day from 8:00 am – 6:30 pm and I come home quite exhausted with “homework.”

I was all set to write my MOON in Sagittarius and  weekend EASTER outlook but found the news that one of my favourite writers Gabriel Garcia Marquez has passed away April 17 in Mexico City at 87 years of age.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez tara greene

One Hundred Years of Solitude, his most famous novel sold more than thirty million copies and won him the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982.  Chilean poet and Nobel Laureate writer Pablo Neruda  called the novel “the greatest revelation in the Spanish language since Don Quixote.” the 17th century masterpiece by Cervantes.

Gabo, as he was affectionately known achieved fame for pioneering the quintessentially marvelous and mundane form called Magical realism.

The eldest of eleven children, he was raised by his grandparents, who were very influential in his later stories. Gabo started out as a law student but then abandoned it to  follow his own immutable ways and worked for many years as a journalist. He was always highly critical of Columbian and foreign politics. His friendship with Cuban President Castro and as an outspoken opponent of U.S. Imperialism Gabo was banned from entering the United States for many years until President Bill Clinton lifted the ban.

Gabo had been ill with lymphatic cancer since 1999, recovered and various stories of his death and recovery, of writing new novels  came and went. Gabo died of pneumonia. The world tweeted and newspaper articles heralded his genius and his undoubtable legacy which will never be forgotten.

“Think of love as a state of grace, not the means to anything, but the alpha and the omega, an end unto itself.” from Love in the time of cholera.

I adored 100 years of Solitude and his novels inspired me to read and enjoy many other wonderful Spanish writers. So lets see just who GABO was in his life and what was occurring at the time of his death.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez astrology by Tara Greene

A QUADRUPLE PISCES born March 6 1927 at 9:00 am in Aracataca Columbia. Marquez had a very supportive Jupiter, ANCIENT RULER of Pisces conjunct his SUN in the 11th house of revolutionaries, higher consciousness, collaborators, independent egoless leaders.

Born with a sensual hard-working, stubborn, focused, Venus ruled salt of the earth Taurus Ascendant.

His Moon- symbolizing his mother is at 24 degrees ARIES is in the 12th house of spirituality, imagination, compassion, creativity. He was telepathically connected to his mother.  Moon is conjunct to Chiron the wounded healer and in the 12th house can indicate a difficult birth and he had the umbilical cord wrapped round his neck.

CHIRON at 29 degrees Aries is conjunct his Ascendant- Marquez wasn’t afraid to speak out for the wounds of the people as symbolized by the Moon. The Moon is trine to Neptune Retrograde at 25 degrees Leo in the 4th house of childhood, home, roots which perfectly describes how Gabo turned his early childhood upbringing, his Grandfather- The Colonel and his parents courtship into his greatest books. Neptune is also close to Fixed Star Raphael- the heart of the Lion- which denotes courage and fame.

As a writer his Mercury would be of prime importance. Interestingly Mercury is RETROGRADE at 27 degrees Pisces- which is always a very creative, thinking outside the box aspect. Mercury conjuncts Uranus in Pisces in the 11th house of  rebelliousness, genius, spiritual, imagination, empathy. This was where Marquez creative genius lies in that planetary combination. He channeled his writings but was also a very hard worker. Uranus and Mercury Quincunx Neptune making it difficult for Gabo to have fleshed out his unique talent although it was a passionate love affair.

VENUS in Aries at 9 degrees in the 12th house. An independent passionate artist, one who forges his own path, impulsive, energetic, but also reclusive, tending his souls’ fire.

Venus squares PLUTO Retrograde at 13 degrees Cancer in his 3rd house of communications, siblings, information gathering- he was a journalist. This is a very powerful INTENSE combo. Pluto is on FIXED STAR SIRIUS- the God Osirus, and the position of the United States Sun which Gabo opposed its Venusian money ruled Imperialism. Pluto on this Star brings much worldly success. He poured his soul into his ideas and communications.

Mars in GEMINI in the 2nd house of resources, suits a journalist and writer to a T. Mars is the General the warrior with words, and it opposes SATURN at 7 degrees of Sagittarius, close to Fixed Star Antares- war- his Grandfather was a General, in the 8th house of soul, resurrection, birth, death, power, control, other people’s resources. This is traditionally a difficult and karmic aspect. Yet here Marquez Grandfather as the Saturn figure of seniority, discipline is also square to Jupiter in Pisces and his Sun. so he benefitted from a rather strict upbringing. Saturn trines Venus again indicating the legacy of the Patriarchs in his work. His Grandfather gave him valuable  guidance and stories which helped make his a great success.

His North Node at 4 degrees of Cancer in the 3rd house is a quest for family, nurturing, protection of the family legacy and communicating that. He married one woman and had two sons. His South N0de in Capricorn in the 9th house of philosophy, teaching, International travel, foreigners, telling the truth, mysticism indicates that Marquez was someone who held power in a past life. Capricorn is also the house of worldly fame, the father or Patrinlineal lineage. He already had a strong connection, a strong work ethic he was an achiever, who had to embrace family and he bridged both those nodes superbly in his writing.

AT HIS DEATH April 17

Marquez had the Grand Cardinal Cross of Pluto {death} opposing his Natal Pluto at 13 degrees Cancer in his 3rd house, which is Gemini like and rules the lungs. This would literally indicate water {Cancer} on the lungs or pneumonia which was the cause of death. Also Uranus squaring his Pluto, Mars squaring it and Jupiter conjunct it.

The BLOOD RED Total Lunar eclipse on April 15 was at 25 degrees of Libra, falling in his 6th house of health and exactly opposite to his Natal Moon in the 12th house.  Indicating a powerful passing away into spirit.

The Sun was conjunct his  Aries Moon in the 12th house which indicates a peaceful New Moon and spiritual awakening into death.

Transiting Venus in Pisces was conjunct his Natal Jupiter and the Sun in the 11th house and Trine to Jupiter and conjunct his Natal Pluto. If there was a good day to die this would be the aspect to die under. Talk about dying for love, this is exactly what this symbol depicts. Very beautiful, auspicious, a great death for someone who so inspired and touched the world’s soul.

Which is also a symbol of beauty and spirituality. CHIRON the wounded healer was exactly conjunct to his SUN at 15 degrees Pisces, and he achieved peace from being wounded and passed on into the Sol/soul to the next worlds.

The Transiting SOUTH Node at 28 degrees Aries in the 12th house of endings, had just made a conjunction to his Natal Chiron, again indicating a healing journey, a completion, a release.

Thank You GAbo for your beautiful inspiring tales of love, unrequited, loneliness, surreal reality and empathy.
