the largest ASTEROIDS first discovered were named after Goddesses-Ceres, Juno, Vesta, Athena in the 1800’s.

Ceres has been elevated to a new planet status.

Asteroids can seem like comets and spiritually represent mysterious messengers from outer space.

Artists are often prescient ,psychic, know things before the world does.

In 1997 my husband started to make a series of very quickly executed painting of asteroids.

Yom Kippur Holy day of AtONEment and Repentance

Yom Kippor for the Jewish People is the Highest and Holiest and most solemn day of the Year. After 10 days of repentance since Rosh Hashona the New year, Yom Kippor is spent mainly in intense prayer in the synagogue and fasting for 25 hours. The solemn song Kol Nidre is sung on the night of Yom Kippor.

Here is one of my childhood favourite singer’s Al Jolson singing Kol Nidre.

Each Jewish person confesses their sins to G-d directly  any wrongs doings against G-d or other persons, prostrates themselves and taps their heart chakra. On this day G-d’s  inscription for each person’s fate in the Book of Life  for the coming year was inscribed at Yom Kippor and  that verdict is  now “sealed.”

  There are five prayer services throughout the day. Jews wear white as a symbol of purity. Orthodox men take ritual baths in preparation.  At the end of the days prayers the ancient Ram’s horn or shofar is blown which concludes the fast. Thi ssprings from the Era of Aries the ram, astrologically and astronomically 4,000-6,000 years ago.

At the end of the days prayers the song Avinu Malkeinu is sung, here is Barabara Streisand singing it in Hebrew.

This is a good ritual. My take on all organized religions these days is to be totally open to all of them as each carries truth. All is ONE at heart, so join in with the Hindus, the Jews, the Christians, the Muslinm, the Chines, the Indigenous peoples. So one this day one can join in on the Jewish people asking for your own personal repentence. Complete fasting, no drinking either. No work, sex is abstained from, no wearing of leather shoes as well, no driving or handling of money until after sundown.

All former promises are revoked the slate is wiped clean. New intentions are made, G-d forgives your sins. Clean slate for a whole new year.

Also there will be services on wall street at the occupation. Jewish leaders are  stressing the integrity of helping others not only the Jewish tradition. This is a good thing.

If only people’s personal debts and the National debt could be wiped out annually too. Tranditionally any debt carried for 7 years was forgiven. Can’t we just decide that it is so?

We’re now in the middle of the nine nights of the Divine mother Festival of 2011.

Sounds so heavenly to me. 9 is completion. We all come from the Divine Mother as humans, that is our commonality. If you value yourself, your Life, your humaness,then you have to be grateful to the Goddess the Divine Mother of All. 

To many Westerners these kinds of festivals seem pretty crazy, and that includes people in the “yoga” community.

I was introduced to Durga by my dear friend Edda West an herbalist, La Leche League leader, speaker and activist, wise woman, who created and runs VRAN an amazing vaccine risk awareness site out of the Slocan Valley in British Columbia      http://www.vaccinationnews.com/edda-west

Edda of the West introduced me to Durga in the 90’s. She was a follower of  Guru Muktananda many years ago and learned to sing the Hindu Sanskrit chants. I remember she told me that she knew intuitively that Muktananda’s interpreter GuruMayi would be his successor.

I loved the sound of the Sanskrit chants and the sacred language has always felt familiar and easy to memorize. I live one block from Little India Town in downtown East Toronto. I myself haven’t visited India yet, but my husband Napoleon Brousseau travelled there, spending about a year and a half  on two visits.  He made a beautiful book of miniature paintings on his travels.

Our house is full of Hindu weavings and images. I love to sing the mantras, prayers chants.

Durga is a fierce protectress and a strong role model. When the world was being destroyed by demons Mata or Mother Durga was called on to stop it all as no one of th emany other Gods had the power.

She rides her beautiful Tiger. In India they have always worshipped the Female Deities. We need Her strength now, Her wisdom Her power to give birth and to destroy. The Indian pantheon is very balanced and whole. They do not fear the darkness or death. They understand the obvious balance of Nature. She gives and She takes away. We need to reconnect to that balance again.

Hindu’s worship the fearsome Goddess Black Kali who destroys ego. The reverence of the death-bringing aspect is very powerful.

In a mash of Eastern and Western Astrology I would see Pluto in Capricorn, Vedic astrology traditionally does not acknowledge the newer planets. Capricorn besides being thought of as the Big Business  Sign is the Cardinal Earth sign, related in the Kabbalah to Binah, the Empress # 3 in the Tarot.

Capricorn is an Earth sign and I’d see PLUTO in Capricorn as an aspect of Kali, the Death Goddess to capitalism, corporate structures the patriarchal traditions.
