It’s world snake day July 16.  DO you have ophidiophobia? Fear of snakes. Many people do. Yes they can kill you, in the Amazon they reach 30 feet. They symbolize kundalini energy the energy of enlightenment coiled in the base of your spine. Yes a snake lives in your body.  Learn to love and respect these powerful reptiles. They carry a huge symbolic and archetypal energy from the Story of Genesis on. 

They were and still are primarily WOMEN’S Symbols.

The patriarchy Freud, made them into men’s-  phallic symbols. But they writhe like a  women’s hips. They actually symbolize the menstrual cycle. Snakes were revered and worshipped by early Goddess cultures and particularly in Crete where this beautiful snake Priestess comes from. Snakes were used by the Priestess to divine with. The oracles at Delphi, Greece had snakes on their bodies which they used along with hallucinogenic plants to trance with. They may have used the venom as a hallucinogenic poison as well.

It’s Decision day in Greece, I don’t want to get into predicting  on this. I synchronistically came upon this image and tracked it down. A picture is worth a thousand words. LANDSCAPE IN THE MIST is a film about the void. It is a film about despair, about the failure of contemporary society. The prodigal father who figures in almost every Angelopoulos film here has evaporated into his mythical essence – leaving his children to become the wanderers in search of him. In the «chaos», two children appear, little Alexandros and his older sister Voula. In order to exorcise their loneliness, they invent a secret universe for themselves, inhabited by their dreams. Every night they go to a train station to watch the departure of a train to Germany, where they have been deceived by their mother (herself an off-screen presence) into believing that their absent father is living. One night they finally dare to get on the train. But their voyage turns out to be hazardous and pointless and disappointing. They confront suffering, physical and moral illness, jealousy, evil and death, if also love – as many ordeals and rites as initiations. Evading the half-hearted pursuit of the police and uncaring relatives, sneak onto trains, hitchhike in vans and lorries, and suffering poverty, rape and exploitation, take a dangerous leap of faith, an eerie plunge into liberation and danger. The familiar Greek landscape – the cafes, the depopulated towns and deserted beaches – are played for a strangely harsh fairytale quality, seen through the eyes of two children whose introduction to the real world borders on the surreal. The film is filled with extraordinary, unforgettable moments that are at once real and hallucinatory and contains intriguing references to other Angelopoulos’ films. The children even encounter the Travelling Players now, thirteen years later, without a stage to act on, their costumes put up for sale. At the end Alexandros tells Voula the same story from Genesis that she told him at the start: «In the beginning there was chaos.» The children do finally reach the border, but of course there is no border with Germany and perhaps the river they cross is actually the Styx and perhaps their whole journey was a search for order in a chaotic world.

The DRACHMA DRAMA

We can see this excess over the top as symbolic of Greece’s current drachma drama. They are defaulting from excess, living like Kings, Jupiter in Leo, spending- Venus rules the gelt. They are at the point of no return. Although they can’t legally be thrown out of the EU apparently. That drama Leo’s favorite word, is unfolding about the $ and who has the power, the IMF? Modern day clash of the Titans.  It is very interesting that Ancient Greece was the foundation of modern Western society. Yes they pushed the Persians out and freed up the West. We owe the ancient Greeks an invaluable debt culturally. In a world increasingly being threatened by Islamic State Terrorists similar to the original Muslim scourge of the West,history may be repeating. Every great civilization falls, due to an invading foreigner or from its own handiwork.

Greece’s fall from Grace, a Jupiter theme, may signal a huge crisis once again in the world banking system and it is 7 years since 2008. I know about the Shemitah, these cycles are always based on the planetary cycles. The seven year cycle is Saturn’s. The 12 year cycle is Jupiter’s. The 60 year cycle is 5 x 12 = 60 Jupiter again.

INTO THE DEPTHS of SELF – the Underworld is the INNERWORLD – not Hell as we moderns think of it for punishing souls

I am aware of the tragedy that women and girls are being raped physically ever day in the thousands

how the Earth herself is being raped by big Multinationals, MONSANTO, oil, mining, deforestation. It makes me sad.

MYTHOLOGICAL Psychologically Rape is in the story to force one to wake up – this is  Archetypal territory here

not to be taken literally, the myth of being wounded to grow and awaken is primal, it is part of life. The parents need to push the little bird out of the nest so it can fly, sometimes they hit the ground.

Not to mention Dictators and Plutocrats in the world and governments who are destroying conquering and killing

So be fearless  for these next months. What does your soul need to feed itself, to grow now?

As if your life depended on it. As Joseph Campbell says the myths still live within us.Through us.

The myth of ORPHEUS comes to mind, he sang and played beautiful music on his lyre, a harp like instrument

Something about TAURUS the throat, music.soul music.

Orpheus was married and widowed on his wedding day and was so sad he made the perilous journey to Hell and played for Persephone and Hades so they would release his Beloved to life again. They agreed on the condition that Orpheus did not look back at his wife until they reached the upper world. All was well until they almost made it out when Orpheus, overjoyed turned to look at his beautiful wife and OH NO she vanished for all eternity back to Hades. Eventually a group of women tore him apart as he spurned all their romantic desires.

What’s the moral of this story? Be tough and never falter? Move on with acceptance and grace even though your heart is broken to bits?

 Has there been a time in your life when you were so grief struck by a relationship that ended that you felt you couldn’t live without them? Or perhaps they died? suddenly? You’d do anything to get them back but in the end it failed, you had to accept it. But part of you carried the heart break and refused to go back into and trust  life.

How much time have you spent being unable to let go and accept  live?

learn to let go completely, let go of the story and the drama around it no matter how hard
