Halloween Samhain The Witches New Year

These days Halloween has become another day in the year in which to sell lots of scary rubber and plastic paraphernalia, fake blood, creaky coffin lid opening soundtracks, the Monster Mash, etc etc. another commercial holiday. Children dressed in costumes go door to door with their pillowcases {environmentally friendly} asking Trick or Treat! The kiddies are given way too much sugar, and carefully pre-packaged treats. Adults these days get into the Halloween theme by dressing up- straight guys love to be able to go out in drag on Halloween and generally party, funkily “spook-up” their environments and drink a lot. Lots of scary movies get shown.

But let’s not forget the origins of Halloween. It is Hallowed Evening. A Holy Evening, the Ancient Pagan/Wiccan New Year during the month when the Sun is in Scorpio, sign of Birth Death and Transformation. It is close to the mid-point between Autumn and Winter Solstice. Death is Rebirth. Wiccans honour this eve as the night when the veil between the two worlds is thinnest and much scrying, gazing into crystal balls and connecting with the spirits of the dead goes on as this night offers easiest access.

The Wheel of the Year Turns and this is a Sabbat or Sabbath Night, covens gather to do Ceremony. This is a Sacred not a Scared Night.

I wish in the midst of your pumpkin carving and revellery that you take time out to honor this day as it was originally intended. Remember in the midst of all the superficial trappings of Halloween, the hundreds of thousands, some say up to 9,000,000 mainly women, children and men who were accused of being witches by the Catholic Church who were tortured and burned at the stake. Old women, crones, medicine women, herbalists, midwives, pagans,their families, the poor, all innocent people who lived in harmony with Nature, who Loved their Mother the Earth, who knew the Wise Women Ways, the ancient ways to heal, to tend the sick, the dying, the mothers giving birth. It was a misogynist nazi Christian tyranny that went on for over 300 years in Europe and to the New World where the last woman was burned at the stake at Salem. Remember this Holocaust because it wasn’t so long ago. You didn’t have to be Jewish or Muslim you mainly just had to be a woman and therefore evil in the sainted eyes of the Holy Christian Church.

I remember my own burning, the Inquisitors {one of whom turned out to be in this present life, my first husband, and a couple of Real Estate Agents, one Jewish, one Black} I relived this memory during a Holotropic Breathwork session. Many other women also relived the same experiences. It was horrible, my own two children were forced to stand and watch as their mother was tied to the stake and the fire lit. Of course I wasn’t meek or mild, I screamed and cursed them all for their inhumanity and ignorance, for their sadism and cruelty.

Those 100,000-200,000 to 9 million innocent souls who were terribly tortured and burned are back now on this earth.

Deep in the cells of your being in your cellular consciousness be you male or female at this time, you remember the Burning Times when you lived in total fear, when you hid you pagan religion, your ability to help, to heal, when tyranny was all around and anyone could accuse you of being a witch thereby ensuring your almost certain death. Watch The Burning Times a Canada Film Board movie which chronicles in detail this stain upon humanity.

Light a candle for those hundreds of thousands of souls who were innocent and remember what it was like. Given 6 degrees of separation you or someone you love, your children or your dog or cat, a friend or even your landlord was surely enough one of those people.

It’s time to acknowledge the deep pain in the shadows of our unconscious. The only way to heal it is to acknowledge that shadow, let the tears flow, the grief, the agony. This brings it out of unconsciousness otherwise that shadow control our actions unconsciously and allows us to keep inflicting pain on others and self, believing that we are not worthy, not lovable, deceitful, sinners, powerless. There is a collective shadow of women being afraid to hold their power and beauty.

As this is a New Year in the Ancient Count of Days Light a Candle of Illumination and Enlightenment and go beyond the rage, the anger into Love and Forgiveness. For the only way out is to forgive the accusers for their ignorance. This takes great strength and courage, for as you Forgive them you also forgive yourself and allow yourself to be free of the past.

They will get their karmic comeuppance.

Out of the broom closet,witches

I am officially and publicly out of the broom closet.Yes I am a witch, a white witch. I proclaimed this on TV yesterday. Halloween or Samhain is an ancient Pagan/wiccan celebration honoring the close of the old year and it is New Years. It is the day when the veil between the worlds is thinnest. NOvember 1 is All saints Day or the Day of the dead. I was also initiated as a Green Witch by Susun Weed at her goat farm in Woodstock New York in 1987. 

Archetypal wicked witch, hag, crone.

Wicca or wiccan is a modern term for ancient pagan spiritual beliefs which honoured the Great Mother the earth and the Divine Feminine and  participated in the turning of the wheel of the year.It is a non-hierarchical, pantheistic religion. Although I hesitate to use the term religion as we associate it with organized Patriarchal religions. 

The Catholic Inquisition which initially was against all heretics, the Cathars in particular, terrified pagans for hundreds of years.  The Grand Inquisitors ruled from 1200 until the mid-19th century. The Malleus Maleficarum written in 1486 stated that witchcraft was to blame for bad weather. This charge was levelled mainly at women, which according to this text “all witchcraft comes from carnal lust which is in women insatiable”. 

Over the course of 300 years in Europe estimates as high as nine million people were accused of witchcraft, 80% were women were burned at the stake, sadistically tortured and their children were forced to watch them burn. This was the women’s Holocaust. This was worse than Hitler and the Catholic Church is wholly to blame for it. 

 

I remember being burned at the stake and the  Jesuit Priests who convicted me. The one who convicted me in the past turned out to be my ex-husband in this life I later discovered. One re-appeared as one of the realtors who tricked me into selling my house out from under me years ago. It’s a long story,and is part of the book I am still writing.

HOLOTROPIC BREATHWORK

I experienced a full memory of this past life during a Holotropic Breathwork workshop years ago. Holotropic Breathwork was invented by Dr. Stanislav Grof following his experiments using LSD in psychiatry in the 70’s. It is a breathing and music aided psych0-spiritual healing journey which induces a non-ordinary state of reality experience. Most people remember their birth and pre-births in this state. Some people remember death experiences. A number of women at this specific workshop stated that they also remembered their past life as witches and being tortured. 

I had been very angry at the Priest who sentenced me. I cursed him for his ignorance and for so wickedly and arrogantly destroying my life as well as the other women who were also being tortured. My heart broke to leave my husband and children. This was not the first time that I had been serving The Goddess and my life had been destroyed because of it. I also remember being a High Priestess of the Goddess in Greece years ago and having that be overrun an destroyed by  hostile invaders.

Those 7 million women who had been tortured in the past have  come back into this life to take back their power and to reinstate the worship of the Great Mother. That is why the pagan Goddess worshipping communities, websites, workshops, and courses are increasingly  popular now. I am working on launching Priestess workshops and online Moon lodges now.

In the West where women are largely well-educated, relatively good wage-earners, and have freedom {to some extent{ within this culture, we all now must proudly announce where our ancient soul reverence belongs.

It used to be shameful to be called a witch. The stereotype of the old hag, or crone, depicted as an ugly old woman with hooked nose and warts and wild hair, and the fairy tales about the Wicked Old Witch, eating children are a gross misrepresentation and total cultural propaganda.

Elder women were wise women and healers. whose knowledge as midwives and who also attended to those dying were respected and honoured. They had status. 

In a culture which worships youth and not the status of being a wise elder, women need to also embrace this aspect. We are all inevitably ageing. The masculine type of pursuit of immortality is rooted in the false belief that we are our bodies and not immortal souls. The word crone is equated with witches and it carries the same popular stigma. I like the term Crone because it simply means chronos, Time, seniority, maturity, and implies wisdom from living so long.

In my mind if you are older but not wiser that is why you would want to avoid being called a crone and not acknowledged for your wisdom. Language is also empowering. A  large part of Feminism  pointed out that reframing and respelling, sounds Magical doesn’t it?  changes the meaning of a word.

Let’s Re-Spell this.

I put forward that the word CHRONE spelled with the additional H be used proudly to represent a woman past -menopause. That could be any age from the late 40’s. It means a wise women, an elder worthy of respect and honored for her experience and wisdom. We can revere aging as beautiful.

I had been saying I am ready to fully embrace my own power. I was sitting in front of the TV Tuesday night when a commercial came on for the CTV Morning show called Canada A.M. In my mind I said I want to be on that show. I stated that intention clearly.

Wed. October 28, I get an email from a producer at Canada A.M. asking me if I would be interested in being on the show for Halloween talking about wicca and witches. They gave me some homework to do to help them prep videos which I was happy to do.  watch the video below.

THE VEIL BETWEEN THE WORLDS 

Get in touch with your past lives tonight when the veil between the worlds is thinnest. Do a breathing exercise and meditation tonight. Bring out your crystals, create a sacred space. Set up a bowl made of dark opaque material to scry on. This is the night of connecting with your dead ancestors for their wisdom and guidance.

Halloween at Midnight UT

Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 am on Halloween Night which is actually November 1st/ the Day of the Dead an ancient Festival in Mexico and for  witches, Wiccans, druids and neo-pagans it is the beginning of the spiritual New Year. It is the day when the veils between the living and the dead are thinnest and the best day to do divination work, to have seances to connect with the dead, to do scrying with a special bowl of water use crystals, runes, or tarot cards.

It is a celebration of the end of harvest and the beginning of the coldest half of the year. The name Samhain is pronounced saah-win or saa-wen. 

Astrologically 

the Moon enters Cancer early in the morning of the 31st. There is only one hard aspect  between the Moon and Saturn. A lovely trine from the Moon to Neptune means this Halloween will be excellent for visioning for oracles, divination, dreams connecting easily with the spiritual realms. Moon trines Sun in Scorpio in the early evening. 

If you are out late past midnight partying or scrying the Moon opposes PLUTO LORD OF THE DEAD at 1:53 am PDT/ 3:53 am EDT which is the absolute best time to connect with the other side. 

The secular Halloween in American is totally different than than the original pagan celebration. Although the use of imagery of cemeteries, ghosts and the popular icons of witches in pointed hats with their familiars black cats are used, secular Halloween is about dressing up in costumes, which has become a million dollar industry as adults have taken to celebrating this holiday more than children. Trick or Treating door to door and decorating houses with scary  stuff  and carving pumpkins, a symbol of a harvest fruit,  is also part of the celebration. 

Samhain is really a spiritual celebration of death as part of life. It is a day to honor your ancestors. In Mexico it is a happy celebration and everyone goes to the family cemetery to picnic beside ancestor’s graves to remember and honor them and keeping them in the family. Dinners always have empty place setting to honor the ancestors.  It is a great night to reflect. A bonfire is usually lit outdoors.

THE VEIL BETWEEN THE WORLDS IS THINNEST ON HALLOWEEN

Use Halloween as a time to invite and call upon the PSYCHOPOMPS, deities of the Underworld, of which Pluto reigns over.These deities also govern resurrection. Eating pomegranate the symbol of the dead is recommended. 

Call upon the CRONE GODDESS, Hekate, Kali,Persephone, 

Ereshkigal is the first lady of the underworld, one of the oldest myths that we know of connected to the descent of the of the Goddess Inanna. 

YAMA is the Hindu God of the dead.

Mictlantecuhtli and Mictecacihuatl are the chief God and Goddess of the Dead in Mexico. 

There are many Chinese Gods of the Dead and Ghost Kings. As well as Korean and Japanese.

Osiris in Ancient Egypt and Anubis are chief Gods of the Dead.

Odin, Hel and Freya are the Norse Gods and Goddesses.

Azreal is the Archangel of death in Islam. 

Also call upon the Horned God of Nature, Pan into your circle. This is a day to understand and honor the cycle of life, death and rebirth. If you have lost loved ones in the past year, seek comfort from speaking with them on this day. All of your ancestors who have passed on into the other worlds are more easily available and may come to you in your dreams as well. This is a sign that there is no death, only change of worlds.

Robert Pattinson, FKA and orbs everywhere

Robert Pattinson and his new love FKA Twigs were photographed coming out of the Brit Awards Feb 26 2015. I’ve been thinking about them and how I need to catch up and write about their astrology chart connections.

What I found interesting were the multitude of orbs around Robert in all the photos and FKA.

You know about orbs?

 Many people believe that they are a new paranormal phenomena. Some say that Orbs are highly evolved spiritual energies and entities which are attracted to higher consciousness and vibrations. Many people have shown me really mind-blowing orbs and auras in photographs which are impressive.Some people dismiss them as just optical illusions from digital cameras.

Orbs are called “paraeidola” or ghost like images, usually round. They have been interpreted as a highly variable range of supernatural paranormal phenomena which cannot be verified. Orbs include invisible spirits, unusual lights, auras, angels, ghosts, energy fields, psycho-energetic artifacts, and energy balls. They can be different colors, and some seem to have ectoplasmic beings or images inside of them when examined close up. 

I have seen them in my photographs. Have they appeared in yours?

Day of the Dead,Dia de los Muertos,remembering our ancestors,there is no death

ALL SAINT”S DAY Dia Los Muertos

November 1st is a very ancient Mexican Festival to honor and celebrate their deceased ancestors. To the Native Indios in Mexico and throughout Central America death was never an end to Life but a beginning,a transition. Most indigenous people world-wide honor their departed relations, their ancestors and remember them not only on one or two days in the year but daily, setting plates of food for them at the table after they have  passed into the Spirit world.

In  China 3 oranges are usually left as an offering to feed the departed spirits, whose help from the other dimensions is of great value. Aborigines, shamans, ordinary people tap into the knowledge of their departed loved ones regularly who protect, watch over and guide them.

November 1st Dia de Los Muertos in Mexico is celebrated  by the wearing of wooden skull masks called calacas and dances in honor of their deceased relatives are held. Wooden skulls are placed on family alters dedicated to the dead. Sugar skulls, marked with the names of the deceased on the forehead are eaten by a relative or friend, It is  a kind of ritual cannibalism, the eating of an effigy of the dead means that person’s spirit is with in you,feeding you.

Ancient Aztec civilizations held the  festival on the 9th month of the Aztec solar calendar, approximately at the beginning of August and was celebrated for an entire month, ruled by Goddess Mictecacihuatyl. She is known as the Lady of the Dead and was believed to have died in childbirth. So the festival was traditionally in honor of children who also had died at birth. Rituals were also dedicated to Huitzilopochtli { Sinsiter Hummingbird} a war diety.

Christianized to coincide with All Saint’s Day or All Hallows Eve, in Spanish: “Día de Todos Santos, Mexicans now celebrate the day of the dead during the first two days of November.

There is also the Saint of Death.

Mictecacihuatl pronounced ‘Meek-teka-see-wahdl’  is Queen of Mictlan the Underworld, called Hades in Greek Mythology, ruled by PLUTO/ SCORPIO in modern Astrology, she rules the Afterlife.  Mictecacihuatl was represented as a skeleton with jaw agape to swallow the stars during the day.

On November 1st and 2nd Mexicans visit the cemetery where their loved ones are buried. They decorate gravesites with marigold flowers and candles. They bring toys for dead children and bottles of tequila to adults. They sit on picnic blankets next to gravesites and eat the favorite food of their loved ones. It is a time of celebration.

The ancient festival is also being honoured by Native and Afro- Americans. Incense is offered, the deceased favourite music and foods are cooked for them.

Honoring Your dead Ancestors

It is 10 month since my father passed away on Dec 14, 2011, I miss him terribly. I am an only child and my husband and I were care taking my mother up to three years ago until her death and my Dad as well even though he was in a nursing home for the last year of his life. My father Harry lived to be 98 years old. He always sang to me, he was a wonderful dancer, told jokes and old family history about Vaudeville and early Toronto cinema stories. I miss my mother too. I have tracked them since their passing. On these night I honor my parents, my aunts and uncles and friends who have passed on. Also those who inspired me, artists, musicians, poets, inventors.

Take time out to honor your ancestors,or those who have gifted Life and have now departed. On these days Light a candle, meditate on your loved departed, think of them with thanks gratitude and reverence. If you have had a miscarriage or abortion allow tears and the sadness to move through you. This is  a real grief that women are not allowed to honor. These days are specifically for children who died.

When the veil between the world’s is thinnest, the departed will most naturally speak to you in dreams and leave signs. You just have to ask. Nothing to be afraid of. The modern, civilized religions, fear death,and  are cut off from the natural wisdom that the ancestors bring. Death is merely a transition to another dimension. In fact the dead are always very close at hand. To fear death is to fear life, sexuality, pleasure, embodiment.

That is all SATURN”S domain, Lord of death, bones, the Grim Reaper.
ALL of us will die and transition, as we already have.  You know this, you are cosmic star dust from the beginning of the Universe. YOU are all One with ALL THAT IS WAS and ever will be.

We totally out of synch with solar/lunar natural cycle Westerners who denigrate the earth, the Feminine, the Goddess, and ourselves celebrate New Year’s on  a totally artifical Gregorian calendar date 2 months later.  Why not get in synch now?

 The commercialised version of Halloween which has been handed down to us, does partake of some of the original mystery of this night filled with ghosts and spirits walking amongst the living.

October 31 is the night when the veil which divides the worlds of the living and the dead is the thinnest. Covens of pagans, who are ancient nature worshippers, labeled witches and persucuted by the Catholic Church for centuries, would gather to celebrate this sacred Night, the direction of the North West on the great round of the wheel of Life.

Plates of cakes and wine with candles lit are offered to your beloved ancestors, without whom your consciousness and body would not be here. Recalling your departed relatives with reverence is part of the scaredness of this day.

An alter is decorated with autumn leaves, the oranges and golds, the pumpkin, a fall vegetable, one of the last of the season, symbolizes the full round, ripe with abundant seeds of Life.  The harvest has been gathered, the fields are fallow. The King of the Waning Year has sailed over the sunless sea of the womb of the Mother, and alights on the Shining Isle, the luminous wolrd egg, becoming the seed of his own rebirth. The gates of life and death are opened! the new Sun child is conceived, the dead arise and walk, and to the living is revealed the Mystery, that there is no death, that life is everlasting, all endings are but new beginnings. We meet in time out of time, everywhere and nowhere, here and there, atonce, to greet the Lord of Death, who is Lord of Life and the Triple Goddess who is the circle of Rebirth. – referenced to Starhawk.

The popular childrens Halloween game of bobbing for apples, comes down to us from the original ancient ceremonial use of the apple at the Halloween Sabbat ceremony. An apple is the Goddess sacred fruit of Life- remember the Garden of Eden? It is cut by a ritual sword or athame splitting it open to reveal it as the fruit of death as well. The 2 in One.  All apples are Goddess symbols, the shape of the fruits’ seeds is the 5 sided pentagram ,the five fold star of rebirth, as Venus actually cyles in the pentagram shape over time. Upright pentagrams are symbols of Venus herself. The downturned ones are inverted used for black magic and negative.

Apples and eaten wine is drunk. Celebrations of rebirth, renewal, everlasting life is what Halloween is all about. At Midnight Nov 1st becomes the day of the Dead celebrated thoughout Mexico, it is coincidentally also part of that ancient Halloween celebration. The spirits of the dead are able to intermingle with the living. Meals are shared with the departed ancestors and friends. In Mexico great fmaily picinics occur in cemetaries. The dead are consdered to be helpers and protectors of the living from the beyond always with us but closer this night.
