From the 8th century to the 1st Century BCE the ancient sky watchers observed the stars every night and kept records to track the constellations and to predict eclipses. That was the longest lasting science project ever we know of so far. There may be others yet undiscovered.
The ancient cuneiform language inscribed on tablets of clay can only be deciphered accurately by very few scholars today. They show the same Constellations that we know of today.
